Not all of the 1970s pioneers have kept pace with the rapid developments within the Willamette Valley but, at Bethel Heights, their reputation has soared under the stewardship of second generation, Ben Casteel. Bethel Heights is on a roll; the Wine Advocate award for ‘Best Oregon Winery 2017’, the most recent accolade. Bethel Heights create some of the best wines in the valley: generous, deeply-fruited but with pin-point precision too. Their deep-rooted old vines coped especially well during the heat of 2015 and their proximity to the Van Duzer corridor, cool air blowing in from the Pacific in the afternoon, rapidly reducing temperatures and helping to fix acids and slow sugar accumulation. Even in the very warm years, the wines here are fresh and beautifully focussed.
