Charlopin-Tissier was created when young Yann Charlopin and his wife Justine Tissier purchased the very popular ‘Domaine David Clark’ in the centre of Morey St-Denis. The couple have taken on the existing vineyards – Bourgogne rouge, Côte de Nuits-Villages, Vosne Romanée and Morey St-Denis – and supplemented these in their first vintage with family holdings including two thrilling Marsannays, both red and white.
Yann’s education came from wine school in Beaune – “we learnt the basics but we essentially just had lots of fun!”
Years spent making wine his father’s way has only strengthened Yann’s determination to find his own path. His great pal, Jean-Marie Fourrier, has been very instrumental in that, advising and encouraging Yann to buy the domaine, along with the more material help of a loan of his bottle-waxing machine! Having moved out of their cramped Morey St Denis cellar into larger premises on the main road in Gevrey (opposite their great friends, the Fourriers), Yann and Justine Charlopin have taken the quality of their wines to another level. As last year, the rich fruit of the 2019 vintage has been brilliantly judged. “It’s a beautiful millesime, with excellent acidity balancing the warmth of the vintage. I have also started using 320 litre tonneau to keep tension in my wines”.
