One of France’s most respected business men, François has built a billion euro empire from scratch. Growing up on the banks of the Rhône in Ampuis however the terraced slopes of Côte Rotie climbing the hills behind and taking the school bus with Etienne Guigal, François dreamed of being a vigneron. Several decades later and a fortune amassed, Francois has slowly but surely pieced together one of the most enviable domaines in the entire Cote de Nuits. His first purchase was a slice of Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Thorey on the appellation’s northerly slope facing Vosne Romanee in 1991. Needing someone to actually make the wine for him, François asked the chap who tended the vines for the owner if he knew of anyone who could help. “Mais oui!”; his son was finishing wine school in Dijon and was looking for work.
This was the start of an incredibly productive relationship between François and David Duband
As his wealth increased and as opportunities presented themselves, Feuillet has added to his holdings. Especially significant was the purchase of the Jacky Truchot estate which added parcels of Morey St Denis Clos Sorbe, Charmes-Chambertin and Clos de la Roche – all ancient vines. In addition, the purchase of vines from Domaine Louis-Rémy added both Latricieres-Chambertin and Chambertin makes this a very heavy-weight portfolio indeed. The style here is fine, floral and lifted but with strength and depth too. Note that the production here is split between the domaine (François Feuillet) and some which is bottled under a share-cropping arrangement under the David Duband label.
